Suomalainen kirjakauppa commits to reducing plastic waste

Organisations, companies and individuals can share their ideas and commitments to sustainability through the online service Sitoumus2050.fi. Suomalainen Kirjakauppa wants to participate in efforts to reduce plastic waste and has committed to reducing the number of plastic bags it uses. Suomalainen Kirjakauppa began charging for plastic bags at the end of 2014.

This charge has already reduced plastic bag consumption by more than 70 per cent over the first three years.

As part of Society’s Commitment to Sustainable Development, a variety of actors can commit to promoting sustainability in their work and activities. These commitments are published online. The Commission for Sustainable Development, its secretariat-general and an expert panel will then monitor and support the commitments and their progress. Society’s Commitment to Sustainable Development is a shared, long-term target state for Finland’s future. The Commission on Sustainable Development is behind the idea of the commitment.
