Otava donates EUR 30,000 to promote children’s and young people’s reading

30.11.2022

“Inspiring children and young people to enter the world of books is important to us at Otava, and this year we want to make a donation that will help to promote children’s and young people’s reading,” says Eva Reenpää, who will become the new Managing Director of Otava Publishing Company on 1 January 2023.

“The daily lives of children and young people are often busy and filled with digital stimuli. Reading a book gives you the chance to pause for a moment and let your imagination run wild. It also lowers stress levels and improves concentration. Reading creates a strong foundation for a child’s life. So enjoying stories is definitely worthwhile,” says Eva Reenpää.

“Reading increases your understanding of the world, builds empathy, and improves your ability to concentrate. Good reading skills enable you to articulate your feelings, and they also create a foundation for self-expression. Thanks to Otava’s significant donation, we can expand our efforts to promote children’s and young people’s reading,” says Olli Alanen, Executive Director of the Children and Youth Foundation.

The Children and Youth Foundation will use Otava’s donation to instill a joy of reading in even more children and young people. Workshops and events that will inspire them to read together and create stories will be organised at daycare centres and educational establishments all across Finland.

Otava is Finland’s third largest multidisciplinary media group, and reaches almost all Finns in some way or another. Our business areas are general literature, Otava learning, trade, magazine publishing, and digital services.
